Chase Build Out
One of the beauties of a gas fireplace is that it can be placed nearly anywhere in the house. However, it still has some depth, and so you have two choices in chase build outs: have the fireplace come out into the room a foot or two or be flush with the wall.
Mini-chase: If you want the fireplace to be “flush” with your interior wall, the chase might be deeper than your wall depth. In that case, a chase can be added externally to the house, also known as a “mini chase.” The mini chase requires some build-out accommodation to the exterior of your home, just behind where the fireplace is.
Reverse or Interior Chase: If you don’t mind the fireplace occupying a foot or two of space in the room, in this case, an interior chase can be built.
